"What inspired MotherInLawHell.com?" Dr. Phil asks Patricia (left).
"Well, when I was 21, I married. He had a great mother, and as the relationship started to progress, she and I started to butt heads, and I seemed more like the other woman than I was her daughter-in-law," she says. "I figured there had to be women out there who were going through the same thing I was."
It wasn't long before her site had a following. She explains the most frequent complaints about mother-in-laws. "A lot of it has to do with kind of testing to see where the husband's loyalty is. That's probably the biggest complaint, is ‘Who does he love more: his mother or his wife?'"
Patricia explains that her own mother-in-law told her she wasn't typical of the women her son dated, because he usually dates skinny girls. "That's when I first met her, and the thing was, it was always done in a polite way, so you kind of didn't know how to take it," she says.
