(Original Air Date: 10/20/05) What happens when you're the target of malicious gossip and your reputation is in question? Seventeen-year-old Hannah knows about this firsthand. She says that since junior high, she's been called a slut, a skank and a whore. See the surprise message for her from the school bully, Emily. Then, a woman tries to dispel the rumor that she was born a man. She even went to extreme measures by posting her birth certificate and baby pictures on a Web site! Plus, Kristi is a wife, mother, and owner of a daycare center, but an anonymous letter made her the main suspect in a child pornography case. What will it take for the rumors to stop? Share your thoughts.

 Dear friend,
I have a very similar problem with my sibling - only he is my brother and we are almost 7 years apart in age. He is insecure and suspicious and i have finally been able to move away from that place and be happy and contented with my life. Just like you, i have made numerous attempts to be his friend - and i know how hard it is to keep trying when all you get is rejection and pain. Family is supposed to lift you up, to support you and to be loyal to you - not make you feel anxious and nervous and just plain uncomfortable. I am very sad to hear that your sister wasn't around when you were physically and mentally unwell. You said the hero in you is gone - don't let that happen - cause you are a hero in my eyes. I want to be a good sibling just like you. All the sacrifices you made and all the loving support you extended to your sister in her time of need - make you a hero. Don't give up on her. Its incredibly hard, i know - I am living it. But please don't stop being the person you are just because of someone else. If you know who you are, be who you are. It takes a great deal of integrity to be who you are - but in the end, its worth it, right?! Lets both make a pact online, right now - never ever give up on our siblings. No matter what, we will be ourselves - strong and hopeful!
Lots of love to you my friend. Hope to hear from you soon:)

Dear friend,

I'm sorry that I didn't reply to your message sooner.  I haven't been on the Dr. Phil website in a long time and didn't think to check for any replies.  Thank-you for your encouraging words.  I'm sad for you too that you feel rejected by your sibling. But you know, I agree that we should never give up on family.I will make that pact with you to never give up on family.  I am happy to report though that a couple of weeks ago my sister asked if I wanted to meet her for coffee just to talk.  I was so pleased that she wanted to maintain a tie with me.  We met and had a good visit although I made sure not to talk about my disappointments over our relationship.  I think that we will be able to be sisters but there will always have to be a part of me that guards my heart and not expect anything from her anymore.

I guess that I have to lower my expectations and be happy with whatever she feels she can share with me.

How are things going on your end?  Have you had any breakthroughs with your brother?

Again, thank-you so much for your encouragement!

Take care my friend!

catholic school nightmare

I went to a Catholic all-girl school and my twin-sister and I had our reputation ruined. we were called "lesbians". we were also labled "pyscho" by some girls who spread malicious gossip about us when we were asked to leave the school. we basically did nothing wrong. we were good kids. my sister did have a stealing problem but I made sure that she returned the items. we just had taken harassment from that school for too long. No I am 28 and still living in that town where my reputation was ruined. i need to move.

there's nothing left to do when your reputation was ruined like my sister and mine. i want to someday write a book about these struggles and be on Oprah. It's awful what those girls did. The school didn't do anything about the harassment. My father screwed up by keeping us in that school. we left in the middle of 10th grade and rumors followed to the next school we graduated from.

ruined my reputation

I got sober last summer by january 2009 my life turned upside down! These people i use to hang out with when drinking spread rumors of things I had done while under the influence of alchohol. At the same time this girl I have known for year s spread rumors that I was a prostitute. They called my employer and former employers and all kinds of people all over town. Someone got hold of my cell phone records and called friends that i had  and potential new employers, my neighbor and the some former clients from the salon I worked, and family memebers. I now am without a job and with no friends. My hair is falling out in clumps and I am on anti anxiety medicine. My life is ruined. to make things even worse a family member is one of the people doing the most damage. I want to move but cant find a job to move and I fear where i move they will find out and tell everyone there. I dont know if this will ever end. People look at me in disgust and i am alone. I dont know what to do.
