You see photos of missing kids on billboards, flyers, at the post office and even in grocery stores. Child abductions are a reality, and friends, neighbors or even relatives could kidnap your youngster! In 2002, 11-year-old Shawn Hornbeck vanished without a trace. His parents, Craig and Pam, lived their worst nightmare, until four-and-a-half years later when Shawn was found alive at the home of a child predator. Hear their emotional story and Shawn's courageous tale of how he survived captivity. Next, Jessyca was 13 when she was abducted, held captive and raped by a neighbor. After three months, she was returned home, but her mother, Monica, says she wasn't the same little girl. It's been 13 years since Jessyca's abduction, but the wounds haven't healed. Hear about the pain she still lives with every day. How can she pick up the pieces of her life? Then, in the new film, Gardens of the Night, Tom Arnold plays a pedophile who targets and manipulates an 8-year-old girl to abduct her. Hear why he and the filmmaker, Damian Harris, were compelled to make this movie. And find out the five things all parents need to know to keep their child safe. Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

No judging allowed

How dare people judge those children. They can't help it if they got kidnapped. You know that if you were a young child and the kidnapper told you that if you told anyone or tried to escape they would kill you or your family, you would keep quite. If I was ever kidnapped I would do anything that they told me to do if they threatened to kill me or my family. I think that Shawns mother needs to quit beating herself up about if only she wouldn't have let him ride his bike, you can only do so much to protect your children. But you need to try to teach them how to protect themselves. Jessica is very beautiful and doesn't need people judging her and needs more people loving her and showing her support. I think that if she would get out and meet people she will learn to appriciate herself again. She just needs some friends that can help her through this.

Omg.  I don't know where to start.  I don't know how I can possibly give enough meaning to my words to have any impact whatsoever.

But...I'll try by keeping it simple.  You are beautiful.

11/03 Child Abductions

Quote From: dmortmom22

My oldest daughter was abducted and murdered seven years ago.  She would be 26 now.  Seeing Jessyca today just broke my heart.  I sat there and thought that would have been my daughter if she had lived.  I hope Dr. Phil can get some help for Jessyca and that she can know she is a good  person and is not responsible for what happened to her.
I am so sorry for your loss and pain.  No one should ever have to go through what you have.

It breaks my heart to see the faces of all the missing children. Jessica especially broke my heart.  To see her spirit so beat down.  I cried for her throughout the show and I just hope that this sweet girl can somehow get back what she lost.  I say hallelueiah Dr. Phil for calling that man exactly what he is.  I will be continually praying for Jessica, Josh, and all the others that are out there and all those that have not yet been found.  My heart goes out to them and their families.

How dare people judge

Shawn I am so sorry that after all you have been though that people dare judge you. Being though some terrible things I have learned at least one thing, Never say "I know how you feel", because unless you have gone thru the same thing, you have no idea!!!!!!!
I am so happy to see that you have supportive parents.
May God watch over you, and help you heal.

Jessyca's Story

I was psychologically stuck in a 30 year prison of my own. I grew up in a home where incest and rituals were rampant. When I was 18, I met a man 20 years older and thought I had found my knight in shinning armor. I thought he was going to take me away from the past, but he was far more controlling and crazy than what I was living with. I was in a prison in my own home. When I saw Jessyca today, my heart went out to her, as that is how I felt for over 30 years. He not only controlled me and who I could or could not talk to, but controlled everything I did, and it was horrible sexual abuse, and saying I was too fat, dumb, ugly, that no one else would even be able to stand me. I still live with those horrible thoughts in my mind, and I am 57 years old!  I have been going to therapy for many years, but it sometimes I wish he would have just stuck to hitting me.  The psychological abuse stays with a person much much longer than the bruises. My prayers are with Jessyca, and the hope that someday she can see that she is a beautiful daughter of God who loves her sooooo much. I am still working on that one.

A person can be in a prison even in their own home, especially when they have been so brainwashed to think there is no escape.

Abductions Child Doctor Phil. Are you kidding  me?  I have never been abductions in my life. See yo-

u on Monday November 03rd, 2008. Sincerley Your. Russell Vlaanderen.-------------------------------------

Russell, I am thankful that you never had to endure the terrors of being abducted. You were blessed to have been spared that horror in your life.

I only have one question for you.

To what do you attribute your lack of compassion for one who has?

Help Them

We as parents must not falter in our responsibility to keep our children safe.  I know we cannot be present with them always as this is not healthy but we must use communication as our best tool to protect them and help them protect themselves.

Thank you for this opportunity to revisit the importance of this subject.

For those children on the show (and those not on the show) who have been violated I pray for healing and strength and for them to grow into strong advocates themselves for children.  They have already provided so much to others in sharing their stories.  Who knows how many may be safe because of this.

Bless the children.

Jessyca looks so much like Jessica Love Hewitt

OMG Jessyca is so beautiful!  Those eyes - she looks like Jessica Love Hewitt.  Someone needs to get ahold of both women and introduce them to each other.

Jessyca honey, no body can feel or understand what you do.  I do know what it feels like to feel ugly, fat and stupid.  I don't feel that way anymore but it took quite a few (30 some) to realize I am lovable and I have a wonderful husband who loved me before and now tha I am a bit over weight.  I thought I was fat at 120 pounds. I was told I was by someone I loved at the time.  I look back on pictures of my younger years and I would give anything to look so good again.  Just know that Dr. Phil will help you and there is a great big wonderful world out there.  Not everyone is good but most people are.  We have to listen to our gut feelings.  And right now my gut feelings tell me you are bright, beautiful and a weight I should work at being.  You look awesome.  When you smile and show your teeth you are even more beautiful.  Beauty does come from within and you definitely have a beautiful heart.  It just needs mended.  Take the help offered.  I don't know what I would have done if I had not seen a specialist on adult children of alcoholics.  He helped me see myself for who I really am.  I wish you so much love, happiness and gladness.  You deserve it.  Hugs to you and your mom.  Cheryl

Are they Lucky.. to be freed.. are they really free

Every one says how lucky they are to be found or when the abuse stops.  But the suffering does not end when they are found, it will go on for the rest of their lives.  Speaking from my own experience, i do not feel free.  The abuse will always be with you ,and it has changed your path in life and  the person you would have been.  It also changes your family.
