More than half of the households in America have one or more computers. These days, it’s common to surf the net, pay bills or even shop online, but do you know someone who spends way too much time on the computer? Dr. Phil’s guests are desperate to get their loved ones off the PC because their obsession with the Internet is causing major drama in their families and marriages. Chris and Virginia say they had no idea their 10-year-old daughter was having sexual conversations with men online, until a phone call in the middle of the night shocked them to their core. Parents, you won’t believe where the inappropriate conversations started! Then, meet Bob, a husband and father who is so addicted to the online game EverQuest that he admits he’s forgotten to feed his children! He spends up to 80 hours a week playing his computer game and has stopped eating with his family, playing with his kids and even sleeping in the same bed with his wife, Tiffany. See what happened when Tiffany gave him an ultimatum: give up the game or his family. And, meet a mom who spends all her time perfecting the online profiles she created for her dogs! Her two sons say, "What about us?" Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

I just have to say-I have never posted here before but I am appalled at the 10 year old who talks to men online. I have 3 kids-a son who is 10, a daughter who is 8 and another daughter who is 3. The only thing my children go on the internet for is to play Webkinz. I would throw up if I saw conversations iike that. My 10 year old is not stupid but he would have no idea how to get into a chat room or probably even what that is  I would get rid of all the computers in my house. My kids are busy playing with their friends and extra-ciricular activities that they dont even have time to play on the computer and they go to bed early because they go to school. We have a computer and a laptop and I just cannot even imagine. If anyone said those sexual innuendos to any of my kids I would call the police and have them tracked. I just dont understand why the parents dont have control of the situation. Kids grow up way too fast and that is not ok. I just dont understand the thinking.

Sick of It

I don't understand what has become of the gaming fuel for all these gamers hooked these imitation people and they would rather sit in front of a TV or computer then to spend time with their family. I'm in about the same situation, my story is long so I will cut it short, With my boyfriend for 3 yrs, we got engaged before Christmas last year, and I have removed my ring, still live together but that's due to other situations. But he plays X-Box everyday and half the night if he don't have to work the next day and complains because he has to work, he would rather sit in front the the TV and play games with what he says are not real people, but if I talk to some one on line then it's cheating, I think that Microsoft has went to far, he also has the video cam so if he is playing uno he can hook up his cam and if the others have one then they can see each other and talk to each other, I suspect that he has shown himself to other females, I know that other females have shown him their private parts, but he says that people on x-box live are not real people and I'm just crazy and jealous, he spends pretty much every waking moment on line, chatting , sending messages and playing with others and I shouldn't get upset I should join in ,he use to ask me to play but I have carpal tunnel in both wrist and just don't have the desire to sit in front of a TV for 12 hrs straight I can' t comprehend it.  When I use to complain he said he works and if this is how he wants to spend his time I should be okay with it at least I know where he is at and at least he's not out at the bar trying to pick up some chick. We do nothing together, he wont take me out, we don't cuddle, and if he does decide to come down stairs and watch TV with me he considers that spending time with me, hes on one couch and I 'm on the other but we are spending time together.

It's amazing that people don't get it

We don't have a "living room".  That is where our computers are.  No one gets online without everyone else in the house walking past, seeing what it there.  Everyone agrees and watches the same thing on the family TV (or doesn't watch that day). We rarely watch regular TV or cable, mostly DVDs. The first time our children watched a commercial and wanted "That really neat toy", we explained how commercials work, that they are trying to sell you something.

My daughter is going to be 12 and doesn't want anything for her birthday because she already has everything she needs (know many 12 year olds like that?).  She has a cell phone (not the latest and greatest, but functional) because she goes to school a half hour away, but she rarely texts anyone (she just SAW them).

My 9 year old son is capable of shutting down a computer game or DS within 30 seconds of anyone asking him to, even if he loses whatever "progression" he has made.

Neither has a TV, computer or DVD player in their room.  The DS's are even played in the living room.

My husband plays computer games two days a week between certain times (after the kids go to bed).  I use that time for reading or crafting.

We play Nancy Drew games on the computer as a family, trading up who gets to "drive" , play cards, make a craft, or play a board game if we don't have time to go out for a hike, bike or swim.   We actually enjoy time with our children

So far, so good. It all seems like common sense to me, but maybe it's not so common.

Missing my Niece

I am listening to the concerning the 10 year old on the Internet.  I wish I could talk to her and tell her that at this very moment my family is going through a terrible ordeal.  My 22 year niece has been missing for 12 days.  She left her college campus on the 16th of this month to meet a man she started an internet relationship with and has not been seen or heard since.  The man has admitted he saw but that was all and he has been caught in several lies regarding his story.  So please, please monitor your children activities on the Internet.

Child involved in inappropriate conversations

I just am disgusted that this 10 year old has been victimized by these perverts online. I really hope this little girl can deal with what she's been subjected to and not allow it to "ruin" her life. I am so relieved that her parents know about some of the things she has been exposed to & are actively working on ending her involvement with these disturbed people.

I can't believe that the parents of a 10 yr old can't control what their child do on a computer. That's crazy!

who's the parent and who's the child! I was more blown away when Dr.Phil didn't see it the same way. Throwing the computers away isn't the solution. The solution is to put parental controls on the comp, put a password on the comp or either keep the child off the compuer. The parents was speaking as if they have no control at all, when they do. They simply choose not to put their foot down and take action!

Wow, hits home

I'm watching the episode now, and it really hits home with me. I just broke up with my boyfriend of 14 months because of his internet usage, mostly.  He used my laptop to download and view hours of porn.  He also got on facebook and had online sex with numerous women. He denied the behavior, but I saw the messages, because it was on my computer.  The last 3 months, I felt like crap about myself. I kept thinking that it was my fault somehow. It got to the point that I couldn't take his behavior anymore and ended the relationship. I am still kind of friends, and last I heard, he was getting some help, although that help was more based on his problems with anger at work.  I should have gotten out a long time ago.  I kick myself for letting him treat me this way.  I've met someone new, and he is the total opposite.  He makes me feel like a real woman, instead of less than nothing.  So ladies and gents, if someone is treating you this way, get the heck out! I was scared to leave because I thought I'd never find anyone else. But there is hope and someone else out there that is better!!!

Signs of molestation

Watching the part of the show with the parents of the 10-year old having sexually explicit conversations online makes me wonder if this is a sign that she is being or has been molested. Generally you see that kind of inappropriate behavior and comfort talking aout sex so inappropriately at such a young age in children who have been exposed to sex by an adult. I wonder if she was molested by someone, and God forbid, by one of her parents. Or maybe it's just from talking to her friends at school that she is familiar with these sexual terms. But either way, this story is so disturbing.
