Dr. Phil continues delving into the lives of twin sisters, Yvette and Yvonne, who abuse pain pills. They live with their mother, with whom they have a volatile relationship, and the household is filled with fighting, screaming, cursing and even passing out in front of their children. Their father, Timothy, a former drug addict, joins the show. Why do they become emotional upon seeing him? Next, find out who else Yvonne blames for her drug problem. Then, Dr. Phil presses the twins to face the truth. Will these sisters acknowledge the emotional impact that they are having on their young children and make a change? And, when faced with the ultimate choice, will Yvette and Yvonne choose life or death? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

A grown-up child from a similar environment

I spent many years in a chaotic/abusive addiction home and it is an undeniably miserable way to spend one's childhood. It has left  permanent emotional scars and affected every aspect of my life negatively. Like I did, the kids want a normal, stable home but cannot bring themselves to turn against their own family. An adult needs to make the best decision for these children, and living with the alcoholic grandmother is not the best decision. A non-addict relative or a foster home would be a better choice and give the kids a better chance. A pill-popping addict or a drinking addict is still an addict, and as Dr. Phil said "Addicts can't raise children".

harder than you think....

If I were the sister of those twins I would be trying to get custody of those poor kids myself...I could never sit back and watch my nieces and nephews be abused in that manner.  I don't understand how people can call Dr. Phil but not social services.  It just makes me sick to see kids treated in that manner when there is a responsible adult who could care for them and remove them from the situation.

It's easy to say that the sister, Maria, should just "get custody" of those kids. It's not like going to the pound and picking out a pet and walking away with it. DCS is not so willing to just give kids to other family members..even when that SEEMS to be the most common sense solution.

None of us knows what Maria's situation is....perhaps she lives in a tiny, one bedroom apartment, or in a condo where they don't allow don't know, so don't be so quick to decide that that is where those kids belong. DCS has certain requirements that have to be met before they will turn over a child to anyone....a certain amount of bedrooms is just one of them.

We don't know the whole story, so we can't just assume anything. You know the old adage about "assume" don't you? "When you just assume, you make an ASS out of U and ME."

Just plain sad

I am home sick from work the last two days and have been watching the pill popping twins. These women have a lot of issues from when they were children themselves. It's so sad to see how terrible their daily lives are as well as Yvonne's children's. Yvonne is in such denial about her ability to control her drug use. At least Yvette is honest about her lack of contol. Yvette loves her sister, that is obvious but if she doesn't get away from her, Yvonne is going to take her down. The whole family needs counseling about the abandonment issues with the father and the anger of their mother from being left to deal with raising the 4 sisters alone.

I work around children and I see daily what happens to kids whose parents do drugs. When these women take these kids to school and to school events, if they even go to the school events, people realize they have substance problems. It's obvious the way they shake and slur their words. No one is going to send their children to play at a house where there are drugs unless they are doing the same thing. Don't these women see they are condemning these children to the same life they are leading? Kids like this always look for attention from other adults when they are little by getting in trouble and when they are older from they look for acceptance wherever they can get it and however they can get it. That's life. If they love their kids they should want the absolute best for them and they aren't getting that.

I applaud Maria for contacting the show. She obviously loves her sisters and wants them to get clean. She is definately a wonderful sister whether Yvette realizes it or not at this point. I am glad the father showed up to help out also. He needs to stay involved and help all of his daughters get the past behind them.

I think Yvette is a good person. She has no confidence in herself though and looks to her sister for approval and strenghth. She has to separate from her sister in order to become strong for herself and her daughter. She seems the most honest of the two. If she can separate, I think she can make it. Yvonne seems dishonest to me. I felt she was lying about not giving her sister drugs. I think she uses it to control Yvette because she know Yvette is weak. If she truly loves Yvette, she needs to let go of her and let Yvette get well. I think she is afraid if Yvette gets well she will lose her. She needs to stop being selfish. Yvette needs her own daughter in her life and her daughter needs her. Yvonne is scared to be alone with her kids. She doesn't have the parenting skills to handle the problems and she doesn't have the income to hire a babysitter when she is at work. I don't think she means to be selfish. I think she is only living in the moment and thinking about her own kids and not realizing what her neediness is doing to her sister and her niece. Her husband may possibly come out of prison and start doing drugs again. She needs to learn to be strong and independant in case that happens. She can't subject her children to more drug use. She is worried what is going to happen to her kids while she is gone getting help. She needs to realize her kids will be better off in the long run if she is gone for a few months now. Good luck to all of them!

I would like to see a follow up on this family.

Pill popping twins

Those women need to start taking responsiblity for their actions.  I personally had 3 major back surgeries in 1 year.  Yes my doctor gave Oxycotin, Percocet, Soma, Valium, Vicodan  all of those drugs when I needed them.  Today  I use Tylenol.  I told the doctor I didn't sign on this journey to become a druggy.  MY husband didn't start taking my drugs either.  Why did Yvonne even touch his drugs?  Was her name on the perscription.  I bet not. So when did she feel she was entitled to start taking them?  I am so tired of our Victim society.  Even on stage those 2 still want to blame everyone but themselves for their situation.  Neither of them want to take responsiblity for the mess they are in.  Children in adult bodies.  I feel for the real children they have brought into this world.  They make such sterling role models for those children.

Is this about Maria?

Quote From: user25959

I watched both parts of the show about the twins and their drug abuse problem. Although I agree with the solution of having them go into rehab, frankly I was very surprised, that the person who initiated the whole intervention was not asked to help out with the children while the twins go into rehab. I'm sure there's more to the story, but it seems like Maria is Miss high and mighty wants no part of her family in the wedding (having her dad walking her down the aisle), doesn't want her sisters being part of the celebration. I think she should get off her high horse and be part of the solution as well. Dr. Phil I think you should have put some of the responsibility on her as well. It was also interesting that when one of the twins wanted to engage in a conversation regarding a phone call, which had to do with MISS MARIA moving out, so that her mom could sell the house, it seemed like it was quickly stopped and the topic shifted again to the twins etc. I believe, that Maria should be taking some responsibilities for the actions and if she wants the sisters to get help, she should put her foot forward as well!
I do  not believe that the harm to the 3 children is coming from Maria. The focus here has to be the 3 CHILDREN.
The issues concerning Maria's wedding just highlight the fact that she has had to make a painful decision and not to include the drug addicted family members to her wedding. That is her right. It is her day.

She is being responsible, she is drawing a line and is not prepared to support negative behavior in any way. How reasonable is it to expect her to pretend that nothing is wrong so that she can please her sisters and father.
This is not about selling houses, guest lists at weddings or who said what to whom.
It is about 3 children who are suffering because they live with a drug addicted aunt and mother.

I have read some comments on the board that suggest that we make assumptions concerning parenting abilities however to quote Dr. Phil, I believe, 'Addicts don't make good parents'.
Can anyone dispute that?
The children are incapable of making any choices that would change their living environment however Mom and aunt can make the choice to deal with their addiction.
Surely the children have to be the main concern, rather than bashing Maria.

Bad Grandma...

I don't think we know the whole story about Grandma... everyone is so worried about the kids and how they need to be removed from the home but Dr phil would not have agreed to Grandma if there wasn't more to the story. Yes, she admitted to drinking and gambling to deal with the stress. That could mean she escapes to the casino to drink and gamble for a few hours, it doesn't mean she drinks till she passes out in front of the kids. She probably does scream and yell and swing on her two good for nothing daughters! They sleep half the day and are only partially available the other half of the day. If they are that drugged up do you think they do any dishes or laundry or pick up after the kids. I bet Grandma has to maintain all of that.

Maybe we should slow down before we jump on Grandma. Maria didn't have any problems living with her prior to the druggies moving in with their kids. If Grandma was that bad Dr. Phil wouldn't let that go. Also, Grandma will probably do fine with just the kids and not the drug addicts in the house.

Send them to rehab or jail, doesn't matter to me - they won't stop anyway! If taking Yvette's daughter away didn't make her stop, nothing will.
