(Original Air Date: 05/21/07) Dr. Phil’s child star competition heats up! Seven kids with stars in their eyes face the final leg of the competition in The Dr. Phil House, but do their mothers unwittingly sabotage their chances? After speaking with Veronica, Kiki and Larissa about how they could be a liability to their child’s success, Dr. Phil turns to Kim and Susan. Playing a video clip of Kim’s daughter, Alaina, in an interview, Dr. Phil points out the pressure and stress that she feels and how it may affect her performance in school. Then, Dr. Phil shows a video of Susan assisting her daughter, Meagan, during the dance rehearsals. In the video, Meagan struggles under her demands. Will these mothers adjust their behavior and take on a healthy, supportive role in their child’s career? Then, it’s time for the final talent show! Each child performs on the Dr. Phil stage, in front of his studio audience and a panel of Hollywood’s top talent agents, managers and casting directors, who decide the grand-prize winner. The children receive fabulous prizes for their hard work, but they mean little to one upset mother. Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Go Gracie!

I'm glad to see Gracie won. And that for the most part, the kids were really happy for her. I hope that the moms can just take this as a learning experience and help their children grow, instead of teaching them resentment ("we didn't come out here for a Xbox 360"). Congrats to all the children, you must be doing something right to even make it to Dr. Phil's stage =)

funniest episode ever

Cheers guys =D. and god bless american media. It's a little sad that these children are being built up for a carreer of being adored by the pre-pubescent demographic. Just throw a couple more steaks on the disney grill I guess. And the mothers are priceless of course. What a lovely bunch of loons they are, and wonderful to watch. Way to take notes from american idol auditions.Who cares if artistry is dead? You sir, Dr.Phil are a television wizard. RESPEKT!

Those 3 boys...

Aside from the parent's being too pushy, aside from the psychological aspect of these shows...Am I the only one who can picture those boys starring in their own show?  I could just see them on Nickelodeon or something.  Naked Brother's Band, Drake & Josh, Suite Life of Zach and Cody....Ok, so I know these shows because of the kid's in my own life....the point is, those shows are HUGE right now and those boys would be too freaking perfect for one of their own.

Mother Veronica

Wow, what a butt. That child will never make it because nobody will want to be around that vulger, nasty mother Veronica.

You know, she looks and acts like Carrie on the king of Queens. Only she a bigger jerk if that's possible.

I'll bet Dr. Phil just loves Veronica to death.

Good Choice

Well, I concur with the winner. I think we could see this coming.

I wish all these young people the best. I hope they can find happiness and success in whatever path they take.

Veronica, please get help before you destroy Maria. I know you expected the Dr. Phil experience to be her big break but instead it probably got the two of you black-listed with agents and talent scouts. Move on, relax, let her be a teenager without the pressure.

Make my Kid a Star

Congrats to Gracie! I am not surprised she won.She clearly deserved it. Her and the three boys were great. And Gracies mom...what a wonderful thing to offer the other moms to come and stay with them to help them. She reached out to them willing to share her blessing even though those other girls are her daughter's competition. She will continue to be blessed because of that. It was very refreshing to hear the 3 boys be happy for Gracie and say that she deserved to win. That attitude is going to get them a long way.

Veronica...I feel so sorry for her. She still does not get it. Her comments after the show were rude, unappreciative and disrespectful. "We didn't come all this way for an XBox 360". And, "Someone is gonna see this show and call us". How dare she be so ungrateful! I wanted to come throught the tv screen and choke her!  No one will call them because they won't want to deal with the Veronica. Maria's performance was clearly lowest on the totem pole...even to the naked eye but she has potential and under professional direction could be great. But her mom is hindering her success and her opportunities.

Congrats to all the kids. And moms please go easy on them. They are still kids. Let them enjoy their childhood. I know people in the industry and it is extremely hard.

I think we are being unfair to these mothers, we only seen a small part of their lives and we are judging them . I for one am sorry ,but what we can only judge by what we saw. I know these Mothers love their children just like I love my girls. They would most likely say the same thing about us if they seen us yelling at our child. Am I right Lady's? Susan I hope this helps you feel better I know you did not want to come across as a very mean Mother. Thank -you for the E-Mail you sent it helped me, see how things can look one why ,when you are not realy seeing what you think you are seeing. I pray all your Kids have a very happy life doing what they love most.

 Love HaHa The Clown

Yes, we all yell at our kids from time to time. I know all too well about that when my 14 year old sons room is a disaster or when he decides he wants to be a bit "mouthy". I think it is the context with which these moms were doing it. They are pushing the kids too hard and clearly living through them. All of the kids had potential but the parents should just chill and let it happen naturally. Gracie "is" a natural and her and her mom have the best attitudes.

I love YOUR non abusive and non harsh words

I am sure you must have a perfect body, peachy cream complexion, and are the epitome of the latest styles.

Please let us know when YOUR parenting guide comes out.  Because, you are obviously an expert in child rearing and have perfect kids!

You are certainly blessed!

I don't really get where your reply is coming from. The original posting just said "do whatever makes you happy, and stop pushing your kids so hard", whether or not you agree with that, slamming the person who wrote it with sarcasm and attitude, doesn't really address the issue at hand. These kids seem to be in pretty good shape right now and hopefully the parents all learned something valuable by coming to Dr. Phil. The only one that I sense is going to be in real trouble is Maria. If I were a casting director, I wouldn't hire the poor girl just because I wouldn't be able to deal with her mother.  Her mother's comment that "they didn't come all this way for an X box" and then refusing to provide an update just showed her immaturity. Unfortunately, Maria will probably end up doing pornos. I hope not, for her sake, as she appears to be a good kid with some talent.

05/21 The Dr. Phil House: “Make My Kid a Star,” Part 3

Quote From: dollface1955

It's nice that these kids have big dreams and are allowed to explore them but sadly I do not see any more talent in these kids except for maybe 2 that even comes close to becoming a star.  A good parent would encourage them by letting them take classes, lessons, and helping them to participate in school plays etc.  NOT BY PUSHING THEM.  Most of these kids have very little chance of becoming a star and the parents are just setting them up for multiple rejections which will do a real number on their self esteems.  Makes me wonder just whose dream this is, or are the dollar signs in their eyes blinding them?  Let them be kids.  Very few kids "make it, so stop wasting their childhoods on a farfetched dream.  You only get one.
