Kids across the country are playing pranks and harassing teachers. Tericka, a high school science teacher who loved her job, lived in fear of her scandalous past catching up with her and getting her fired. Students eventually found out about her shocking past and the news spread throughout town like wildfire. Are other teachers taking her side, or do they feel her punishment was justified? How can she move forward? Then, Anna, an assistant principal, was harassed on the Internet when two students created a fake MySpace page alleging to be her. She says they completely attacked her character and need to be held accountable for their actions. Was this just a practical joke gone bad, or were these students out for revenge? Find out what Anna did to show these kids that some jokes just aren't funny. Could the mischief your kids get into end up costing you thousands of dollars? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Ms. Dye and I live in the same county. And she was my teacher for one semester of my freshman year. I am now a junior in high school. There was not one person in my entire school that could make Earth/Space Science as interesting as she did. She was a great teacher. She made sure all of her students were always doing well in her class and if they weren't, she was always there to help. I know this situation is not whether or not she is a good teacher or not, but people who do bad things should be able to turn their life around. I guess the big dilema is whether or not the students will be able to concentrate or not in school. I believe that is the students choice though. Just as sleeping in a class and failing is a choice, whether or to pay attention to Ms. Dye or not should be a choice. And honestly, who would not want to listen to Ms. Dye.
I'm sure all adults have something that can come back and haunt them, whether its a nickname, somebody who was a sex partner, or somebody who has been arrested. How does life go on if people are not forgiving and understanding? I am against all of the publicity about Ms. Dye. What happened in her life is her buisness. Oh by the way, whatever happened to the under age kid who was looking at porn....absolutly nothing. NOT FAIR!
All I have to say is....hang in there Ms. Dye. All of your former students understand what is going on and are on your side 100%. These people are crazy if they don't let you be a teacher again. I guess they don't know what they are missing.
if the school did not find this out with a background investagation at the time she was hired, i would say let her presant reacord speak for its self, who are we to punish her for something that really hasnt got any think to do with hre life today, im very sure we all have skelliatons hanging in our closets we hope never have the light of day shead on , i wouldnt be afraid for her to be teaching in the school my son goes to, what ever she did 15 years ago i really dont give a damn about, its what shes doing today that i would look at<>

What are we teaching our children??

I dont understand! I am 31 years old, a Sergeant in the United States Army, I have a college degree, and me and my wife have four children between the two of us. Also as a young man, I was in and out of jail, I stole cars and had my own experiences with drugs. Now, my question is, should I be crucified for my past, should I be told I am not worthy of wearing my uniform and fighting for my country? People make mistakes in their lives, no one is perfect, but if you can pull yourself out of the rut and do something good with your life, then who are we to judge this teacher? I would proudly have her as my 12 year old daughters teacher, maybe it would give me a chance to talk to my children about sex. It might be a learning experience for all of us. Everyone has a skeleteton or two in their closet. If you dont have any sin then you throw the first stone. This is the first time I have ever written and I watch the Dr. Phil show almost every morning, I am so upset over this topic that I just could not help but to write. I can not even write everything I am thinking because I am so upset. I guess the only thing I can say is get off your high horse America!! Stop being such prudes. Why dont you try talking to your children about sex instead of trying to hide it from them, they will learn about it whether its from you or from their friends at school. Which would you prefer?? This teacher is an example that we need to show our children, we need to let our children know that it is ok to make a mistake in your life, as long as you learn from it and do better next time. Tericka Dye, I am behind you, keep fighting this and never give up!!

I applaud this assistant Principal for standing up and making the hard, unpopular decision!!  So many people are concerned about the lack of respect our young people show.  How did they get that way? We as parents go too far to keep our children out of trouble.  The accountability level has gone out the window.  We used to say "it takes a village to raise a child". But now, if anyone else tells us our child has made a bad choice, we jump to defend them at all costs.  While we should be our child's strongest advocate, we also need to accept that they are not perfect and will make mistakes.

I agree with the Principal's rejection of the apology letters because I believe they were written to avoid punishment and not to express a sincere apology. We have taught our children that if we say we are sorry, everything is OK and there will be no consequence.  While I understand that these are children, they still need to be held responsible.  The parents can not have it both ways.  They make the decision that these young people are old enough to be online unmonitored, but when they make a bad choice, they cry out that they are children and not accountable.Well, I say pick--either the youngster is old enough to make the decision and deal with the consequence or they are young enough for the parents to still be responsible.

As for the alternative punishments Dr. Phil suggested(cleaning graffiti in the school or apologizing in front of the entire school).  While I agree that it may be more appropriate, I also believe that many parents these days would be up in arms if those discipline actions were taken.  The schools do not allow for these types of  creative punishments that really send a message because they fear backlash from the parents.  There have been lawsuits against school systems for just these types of discipline actions.

I know Dr. Phil means well, but I feel like in this case, he is giving suggestions that work in the perfect world instead of the current environment that we live and work in .

This is why alot of people don't change. Look how she has turned her life around and all they can do is push her out. I think she is a great role model of how anyone can turn their life around. I went from a welfare mom to a Soldier fighting for my country. We all make mistakes but if we turn ourselves around, I think we should get a second chance. She can relate to these kids and what they go through better than a teacher who is crispy clean. How can you relate to something or someone if you have never been through something. I gurantee that the same people pointing the finger have something hiding in their closets too.

If the students who had defamed the teacher on My Space had been using or selling drugs they would be arrested and people would be cheering.  What they did was defamation of character.  It is also a crime and they should pay real consequences for it.  I have been a teacher and have been ridiculed daily by students.  There is no accountability or punishment for this.   In School suspension is a joke.  Asking a student what he should have said or done is also a joke.  Most of the time what they should have said or done is absolutely nothing.  Age is no excuse for inappropriate behavior on this level.

ye with out sin throw the first stone

i was reading the summary on the first lady and was reading what the her male collegue had to say and i kept thinking like 'that's right YOUR so perfect you DIDN"T make any mistakes when you were younger.' i am not saying that doing porn is right but it sounded like the male teacher was saying like you couldn't make ANY mistakes in your youth or else it could be used against you if you want a postion of power. we ALL mistakes, some bigger than other, and depending on the mistake i don't necesarily should be held against you for evere esp. if you have gone on to make some thing of your life later on

12/06 Teacher Troubles

This teacher has made bad choices in the past, if you ask anyone if they did something in the past that they regret, they would say yes. So why should she pay for past mistakes. I have 4 children and I would have no problem with her teaching my children.

Parents allow it...

Quote From: mamaw1954

I just dont understand how come they let kids rule the schools nowdays.    When i was in school if you got into trouble you had to pay for it.   Now the kids get smacked on the hands and turned loose to do what they want, say what they want, and dont ever have to pay for the conciquences of their mouths.    There is no respect for the teachers or any of the staff half the time, because they dont know how to show respect.    Kids now days has no respect for their elders or even for themselves.    I believe the whole problem started when the lady stuck her nose in and told them to take prayer out of school.      I hope the teacher that is having problems will stick it out and i hope she takes the kids and their parents to court for defimation of character.     You know what we do in our past should stay in our past.     Did God not forgive us of our transgressions and sins.     Like the good book says " Judge not lest ye be judged"

To put it simply. Parents sue & press charges when teachers punish. It's happened enough to scare the system into permissiveness. How many parents complain about school being so "lock-down" & "no tolerance" yet are the first to go after the teacher when the reprimand a student?

Heart of the argument

I have to say that I agree with the teachers and parents who have spoken about how important it is that our teachers set an example.  HOWEVER, I reach an entirely different conclusion based on this standpoint.  What better example can we set for our children than that we can turn our lives around?  The parents and school board in the dirstrict disciplining the teacher with a past the pornography industry have instead decided to show the students in no uncertain terms that if they screw up, they may as well write the rest of their lives off because there is no place for forgiveness, rehabilitation or second chances in their community.  Additionally, where is this strict disciplinarian nature when it comes to taking on the CHILDREN who illegally obtained and distributed the materials?  It sounds to me like this district needs to get its priorities in order ASAP.

I am quite perplexed by the harsh judgement directed at  Terika by her alleged colleagues.  When I was in primary and high school, several of my teachers were arrested for domestic violence, drunk driving and impregnating an underage student.  All of those MALE teachers retained their positions with little to no reproach.  These events were not mere incidents, they were, and are, criminal activity.  Although Terika made poor choices prior to her teaching career, I would like to poll her colleagues' past behavior.  Did any of them ever take a hit off a joint?  Did any of them have underage sex with their girl/boy friends while they were high school students?  Did any of them steal a candy bar when they were ten?  Did any of them cheat on an exam or a spouse?  I can go on and on, but the point is clear.  You may find some interesting stories behind the closed doors of many of Terika's most vocal critics, Dr. Phil; I think you may refer to it as deflection.  Keep fighting, Terika; your poise during this stressful time will be your greatest legacy.
